Federal Shutdown Looms as Budget Impasse Continues, But No Immediate Impact on Courts Is Expected

A federal shutdown involving building closures, layoffs and other emergency measure appears likely, as lawmakers admit there appears to be little likelihood of reaching agreement on the budget before a midnight deadline.

If not, some 800,000 federal workers likely will be told not to show up for work on Monday, according to the New York Times (reg. req.) and the Washington Post.

However, the impasse is not likely to affect federal court operations for at least two weeks, reports the New York Law Journal.
