Fed'l Judge OKs Ex-Associate's Suit Saying Sedgwick Forced Him to Quit Over Affair with Court Worker
A federal judge in New Jersey has given the green light to a former Sedgwick associate’s discrimination suit against the law firm.
It alleges that Wilson Campbell, who is black, was forced to resign from the firm after he had an affair with a white Jersey City municipal court worker, reports according to the Am Law Daily.
In addition to working as an associate at Sedgwick’s office in Newark, Campbell was a part-time municipal court judge in Jersey City at the time.
The New Jersey Law Journal (sub. req.) also has a story about Judge Esther Salas’ denial this week of the law firm’s motion to dismiss.
Campbell, who was publicly reprimanded by the New Jersey Supreme Court over the affair, as a Jan. 28 press release notes, alleges a series of discriminatory incidents and says he was treated differently than white attorneys at Sedgwick.
He is representing himself pro se in the suit. Partner Joseph Guarino of Epstein Becker & Green represents Sedgwick. He told the Am Law Daily that the firm doesn’t comment on pending litigation.
