Elvis impersonator dismissed from ricin case over letters to Obama, lawmaker and judge
All charges were dropped Tuesday in a federal case over suspected ricin-laced letters reportedly sent to President Barack Obama, a U.S. senator from Mississippi and a state-court judge.
As the day began, a preliminary hearing against defendant Paul Kevin Curtis was continuing. Then he was released from custody and the Oxford, Miss., case against him was dismissed without prejudice and explanation, the Associated Press reports.
Curtis had maintained his innocence, and his lawyer, Christi McCoy, said after a Monday hearing that he may have been framed. “The searches are concluded, not one single shred of evidence was found to indicate Kevin could have done this,” she told reporters.
