Federal prosecutors in Atlanta have obtained indictments against 51 people for alleged scams run from a state prison with the use of contraband cellphones.

Among those indicted were 15 current or former correctional officers and 19 current or former inmates at the prison, report the Associated Press, WSBTV and the Atlanta Journal Constitution. The scams were carried out by inmates at Autry State Prison in Pelham, according to the indictments.

In one scam, inmates called potential victims and told them they had missed jury duty and could avoid arrest by paying a fine, prosecutors say. Inmates directed the victims to pay the fines with prepaid cash cards and to provide the number, or with money wired to prepaid debit card accounts held by the inmates.
