Whether a lawyer should have a law blog is a cutting-edge question in the United Kingdom, where not many do.

“Notable bloggers in the U.K. legal profession as a whole are few and far between,” reports the London Times, and and many of the country’s solicitors and barristers don’t see a need for them.

While a far better marketing tool than traditional newsletters, proponents say, law blogs can also pose pitfalls. And stricter British libel laws, compared to the United States, where law blogs proliferate, may have had a role in discouraging the U.K.’s legal eagles from soaring into the blogosphere, the newspaper points out.

The article includes a “best of the blogs” list of nine U.K. law blogs. Among them: the Magistrate’s Blog; IPKat; and Bloody Relations, which focuses on family law.
