Fifth Indiana law school to open with a fraction of hoped-for 100 students
Indiana Tech Law School in Fort Wayne had an initial goal of 100 students in its inaugural class this fall.
But now Indiana’s fifth law school is expected to have only about 30 students when classes begin, report the Indiana Lawyer and Wane.com. As of Friday, only 24 students had enrolled for classes that are set to begin Aug. 26, according to Wane.com.
Jessica Lynn Anderson, assistant dean of admissions at Indiana Tech Law School, told Wane.com she thinks the hundred number was more aspirational. “It wasn’t set in consultation with any of us here now,” she said. “It was set before we got here and before the big downturn nationally.”
Anderson said the law school will employ about 25 people, including 11 professors.
Law school dean Peter Alexander told the Indiana Lawyer that the school is “trying to blend theory and practice in a different way, to prepare students in a new way. I think people are beginning to hear the message.”
