Fighting Fallout from Dean Ouster, Duquesne Appoints Alumni Panel

Apparently seeking to contain damage from its abrupt and controversial ouster of now-former dean Don Guter last week, Duquesne University School of Law has appointed a new alumni panel.

The star-studded membership list for the 14-person panel includes includes two state senators and two retired Pennsylvania Supreme Court justices, as well as other judges and attorneys, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Most are Duquesne graduates.

The announcement of the panel by new interim law school dean Ken Gormley makes no mention of the fracas over Guter's demotion, in which some alumni have threatened to withhold donations to the law school.

Guter reportedly retains a tenured faculty position in the new regime.

Pray tell what exactly is achieved by a new alumni panel? This is like swatting at flies where there’s an angry grizzly standing in front. Can’t just ignore the obvious problem and hope it goes away quietly.
