Criticized over the recent forced resignations of two lawyers in her office who had been investigating mortgage foreclosure issues, Florida’s attorney general, Pam Bondi, is now calling for an independent investigation.

Bondi has said that the two, June Clarkson and Theresa Edwards, were let go due to legitimate job performance concerns, not for political reasons. However, she also expressed concern that top staffers who handled the dismissals may not have documented them properly, the St. Petersburg Times reports.

“I want to do everything I can to make this the best office in this country, and I do have questions as to documentation,” Bondi said.
