Jim Morrison urged his fans at a 1969 concert to “love your neighbor ‘til it hurts!” But did the Doors front man expose himself?

That is the critical question outgoing Florida governor Charlie Crist is studying as he prepares with a thick notebook of material for a Clemency Board hearing next week at which Morrison could be posthumously pardoned for his indecent exposure and profanity convictions following the Miami rock concert, the Associated Press reports.

It really looks as if Morrison might be innocent, Crist told the Arts Beat page of the New York Times last month.

And Doors drummer John Densmore says that, in fact, Morrison was wrongfully convicted.

“He didn’t do it! I was there; if Jim had revealed the golden shaft, I would have known,” he tells the Hollywood Reporter. “There were hundreds of photographs taken and tons of cops and no evidence. Yeah, Jim was a drunk and a sensational, crazy guy, but he also was a great artist and I want him to be remembered for the art as well as the craziness.”
