Fla. Lawyer Challenges Red Light Cameras as a Due Process Violation

Florida lawyer Jason Weisser has filed 13 class action lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of fines issued to car owners whose vehicles were caught running red lights by cameras posted at intersections.

Weisser, of West Palm Beach, calls the cameras “a complete due process violation because your defenses are ripped away from you," the Sarasota Herald Tribune reports. He has plans to file at least nine additional lawsuits.

Weisser told the newspaper that vehicle owners are being fined without proof that they were driving. He also said car owners are being deprived of their right to face their accuser and their presumption of innocence.
