A convicted child murderer is scheduled to be the first person put to death in Florida since the state suspended executions over concerns about its lethal injection procedure.
Mark Schwab is scheduled for execution on Nov. 15, the New York Times reports. Gov. Charlie Crist signed the death warrant yesterday.
Crist’s predecessor, Jeb Bush, suspended executions after it took executioners 34 minutes to kill Angel Díaz last December. The first deadly chemicals missed a vein, a study found, and a second dose had to be administered. Witnesses said Díaz appeared to move and mouth words after the first injection.
