Florida International 3L Shot and Killed in Apparent Murder-Suicide
Students at the annual “barristers’ ball” at Florida International University’s law school wore purple ribbons Saturday in honor of a 3L who was shot and killed the day before in an apparent murder-suicide.
Dannette Willory, 25, had planned to attend the event, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. She was shot and killed in the parking lot outside the apartment building where she lived with her parents. The man believed to have shot Willory before turning the gun on himself is her longtime boyfriend, according to Willory’s father, Owen Willory.
“They have been together since high school, and I think he was insecure and afraid she would leave him,” he told the Sun Sentinel.
Willory had worked part-time as an intern in the juvenile division of the Broward County State’s Attorney’s office. She was also a member of law review, the Miami Herald reports. Dean Alexander Acosta said Willory had been looking forward to graduating and prosecuting the same kind of violence that took her life. “This is a horrible tragedy,” told the Sun Sentinel.
