Foley & Lardner is discussing a possible merger with Gardere Wynne Sewell.

Foley & Lardner spokeswoman Jill Chanen confirmed the talks in a statement, report Law.com (sub. req.), Texas Lawbook and BizTimes.

“We continuously evaluate opportunities that will advance the interests of our clients and the firm,” Chanen said. “As part of these efforts, we have engaged in discussions with Gardere Wynne Sewell about the mutual benefits for clients that may stem from a combination.

“As the discussions are still underway, and no final decision has been reached, we do not have any further information to share at this time.”

Milwaukee-based Foley & Lardner has more than 800 lawyers and 17 U.S. offices, along with offices in Tokyo and Brussels. Dallas-based Gardere Wynne Sewell has more than 200 lawyers in three Texas offices, one in Colorado and one in Mexico. A merger would give Foley & Lardner its first offices in Texas, according to Texas Lawbook.
