Black market for office supplies? Suspect charged in $376K theft of copy machine toner from law firm

A former 10-year worker in the copy department of Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson is facing felony charges alleging that he stole $376,000 worth of copy machine toner from the law firm’s offices in New York.
Adrian Rodriguez is charged with two counts of grand larceny. Prosecutors say he ordered more toner than the law firm needed, then sold the extra boxes of toner on the black market, reports MYFOXNY.com.
A press release from the office of Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance provides additional details, but doesn’t explain how the law firm found out about the alleged scam.
“It may surprise many New Yorkers to learn that there is a black market for office supplies,” Vance said in the release. “This defendant didn’t just take a box of Post-it Notes out of the office supply closet—he is charged with making an illegal business out stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars of worth copy machine toner.”
