A woman who was a 15-year-old high school sophomore when she began interning at an abortion clinic testified last week that some of the aborted fetuses “looked just like regular babies” and at least five of them were moving and breathing.

In one instance, said witness Ashley Baldwin, one of the aborted babies was “screeching,” the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Baldwin, who is now 22 years old, testified in the murder trial of Philadelphia abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell. The Associated Press also has a story.

Gosnell is accused of third-degree murder in a patient death and first-degree murder for the deaths of seven babies who were born alive. Baldwin started at the clinic by answering phones but soon began administering intravenous medications and assisting in abortions. She testified that she saw Gosnell use scissors to snip the necks of babies that were moving after the procedure.

The Philadelphia Inquirer says jurors calmly received Baldwin’s testimony after hearing “a four-week parade of horrible testimony.” The trial resumes Monday.

Baldwin’s mother, Tina Baldwin, also worked at the clinic. The 47-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to racketeering, conspiracy, and corrupting a minor, the Inquirer says.

Gosnell’s lawyer has claimed that the moving aborted fetuses were reacting to an abortion drug and they were not killed.
