A former county prosecutor in Idaho has filed a lawsuit that claims a law firm and other defendants sought to interfere with his prosecution contract and plotted to spread defamatory falsehoods about him.

The plaintiff, John Bujak, says in the lawsuit that he was awarded a contract with the city of Nampa to prosecute misdemeanors previously handled by the law firm he named in the suit, Hamilton, Michaelson & Hilty. The firm assisted two of the defendants in preparing a public records requests designed to access Bujak’s private bank records, the suit says. The Idaho Press-Tribune and the Idaho Statesman covered the suit.

The suit alleges the law firm worked with one of the other defendants on a letter writing campaign making false accusations that Bujak committed a felony.

Bujak resigned in September 2010 under pressure from county commissioners who contended the lawyer owed the county about $300,000 for using county resources to carry out the contract. A special prosecutor is investigating, the Press-Tribune says.
