A lawyer who was a legal adviser to Washington, D.C., Mayor Adrian Fenty has been disbarred.

The lawyer, Garrett Lee, quietly resigned in June from his interim job as deputy general counsel to Fenty, Legal Times reports. Lee consented to the disbarment in connection with allegations that he neglected a divorce case while in private practice and perjured himself in a deposition taken in the resulting malpractice case, the story says.

Lee’s former client obtained a $1 million judgment in the malpractice case against him, the story says. A judge awarded the damages after Lee failed to respond to a motion for summary judgment.

Lee is now working in a pottery studio owned by his sister. “I’m pursuing a family business venture with my sister,” he told Legal Times.
