Former magistrate judge gets 160- to 180-day sentence in court theft case
A former chief magistrate judge in Crawford County, Ga., was sentenced to 160 to 180 days, followed by nearly 10 years of probation, after taking a plea Monday in a court-theft case.
Andrea Peterman, who also formerly served as clerk of the county’s probate court, took money from both courts on multiple occasions, then tried to reimburse the county from her paycheck on payday, said District Attorney David Cooke. She pleaded guilty to fiduciary theft, concerning the probate court, and violating her oath of office chief magistrate judge, reports the Telegraph. Under the plea deal, a charge that she had stolen from the magistrate court was dropped.
“She’s truly remorseful for what has occurred,” said her lawyer, MIchael Chidester, in a Monday morning court hearing.
