Months after he left the Texas law firm at which he was a name partner to form his own boutique, an intellectual property practitioner says it still hasn’t given him all of the money to which he is entitled.

Plus, contends J. Mike Amerson in the lawsuit he filed last week in Houston, while the firm now known as Williams Morgan has removed his name from its marquee, the firm continues to use his name “for the value associated with it” on a website, concerning ttorneys’ U.S. Patent Office registrations and in bar listings, reports Texas Lawyer (sub. req.).

Asserting claims including breach of contract, conversion, equitable causes of action common law fraud and misappropriation of his name, Amerson seeks injunctive relief, an accounting and over $500,000 in damages.

“I still hope we can work it out. It’s come to the point where we have a strong disagreement about what should and shouldn’t happen,” Amerson told the legal publication in a telephone interview. “I’ve worked with those guys for 15 years, elbow-to-elbow, and it’s sad.”

Founding partners Danny Williams and Terry Morgan did not respond to Texas Lawyer phone messages seeking comment.
