A former partner at O’Melveny & Myers and chief of staff to two vice presidents has been tapped as the nation’s Ebola response coordinator, according to published reports.

President Obama is naming Ron Klain to the new post coordinating the nation’s response to Ebola, report the Washington Post, the New York Times and CNN, relying on anonymous sources. The three news sources are dubbing the position “Ebola czar.”

Klain is currently president of Case Holdings, described in this Washington Post story as a holding company for the business and philanthropic interests of former AOL chairman Steve Case. He is also general counsel for Revolution, an investment company founded by Case.

Klain previously served as chief of staff to Vice President Joe Biden, former Vice President Al Gore and former Attorney General Janet Reno. He was also a lead lawyer for Gore during the election recount.

A Harvard Law grad, Klain clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Byron White and was a partner and practice group chair at O’Melveny.
