Former Partner Agrees to Suspension After NY Firm Accuses Him of Stealing At Least $96K
An ex-partner of a New York law firm has agreed to have his law license suspended after he was accused by his former firm of misappropriating at least $96,000.
Robert Alan Schachter was terminated from Robinson Brog Leinwand Greene Genovese & Gluck in 2009 and later agreed to pay a $250,000 judgement, reports the New York Law Journal. As of March 13, he had repaid $90,000 of that amount.
Admitted in 1975, he has most recently been working as counsel to Akabas & Sproule. Partner Michael Sproule told the legal publication in an email that Schachter had been there three years and did valuable work.
“We have been consistently impressed by the quality of his work and his integrity both personally and in all matters on which he worked at this firm,” Sproule wrote. “Whatever financial issues he encountered with his former firm are entirely between him and his former firm and have not involved, and do not involve, us in any way. We wish him well in his future endeavors.”
