Four lawyers who until very recently were associates at Texas commercial litigation powerhouse Beck Redden are now not only partners but name partners at a new Houston litigation boutique headed by former Beck Redden partner Murray Fogler.

“Everybody is a partner, and everybody has a stake. There are no plans to hire associates,” the 61-year-old trial lawyer told the Texas Lawbook (sub. req.). The article, which was reprinted by the Houston Chronicle, notes that two of Fogler’s four junior associates graduated from law school only three years ago.

“It’s been a dream of mine to have my own firm,” Fogler told the Houston Business Journal. “I like the freedom, the way it feels to run my own shop.”

Fogler knows he enjoys being at the helm because of the 15 years he spent at McDade & Fogler before starting at Beck Redden in 2007. Particularly known for his malpractice defense work, he brought a book of business to Fogler Brar Ford O’Neil & Gray from Beck Redden, Texas Lawyer (sub. req.) reports.

Partner David Beck said Beck Redden now has 45 lawyers.

“We hate to see Murray and the others leave. They are all good lawyers and really fit into our firm well, but Murray had his own firm before he came here, and I guess he decided he wanted to give it another try,” Beck told Texas Lawyer. “We wish him well.”

The new firm will do business on the same floor as Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan at Pennzoil Place in downtown Houston.
