Friday is 'Love Your Lawyer Day'; legal marketer's creation gains some support

Lawyers should be commended rather than condemned, according to a legal marketer who has been celebrating “Love Your Lawyer Day” since 2001. The event takes place Friday.
Lawyer marketer Nader Anise says the day, created by the group he founded, is celebrated on the first Friday of November. “Call your attorney and say ‘Happy Lawyer’s Day!’ or ‘Thanks for doing a great job,’ or even send a gift, flowers or a card,” Anise says in a press release. The ABA Law Practice Division has passed a resolution (PDF) calling for recognition of the day as a way to celebrate lawyers and express gratitude for their contributions. The resolution calls on lawyers to celebrate the day “by providing pro bono legal services to their communities and supporting charitable causes that promote the administration of justice.”
ABA Law Practice Division chair Tom Bolt tells the National Law Journal that he wants to address negative public perceptions of lawyers. “I don’t think the message is getting out,” he said. “We need to educate the public as to the role of lawyers and what they are doing as positive contributors to society.”
