A former county bar president was remembered at a Fresno, Calif., memorial service earlier this week after she and her divorce client were shot and killed at a restaurant during a court recess.

The coroner’s office confirmed that lawyer Judith Leslie Soley and her client, Sandra Williamson, both 65, died from gunshot wounds to the head, the Fresno Bee reports. The gunman, Williamson’s estranged husband, James, later shot and killed himself.

Hundreds of people attended Soley’s memorial service on Monday, where she was remembered as a trailblazer for women’s rights, the Fresno Bee reports in a separate story. She was the first female president of the Fresno County Bar Association. Soley used a wheelchair since childhood, but it didn’t stop her from traveling and achieving great things, her friends said. She had practiced law for more than 40 years.

A story by KFSN-TV describes Soley’s client Williamson as “a soccer mom before the term was even coined.”
