A Washington state woman didn’t think it was a good idea to leave her child’s chocolate birthday cake in the car with the dog when she visited a local courthouse.

But the cake didn’t last long at the Cowlitz County courthouse either, RTV6 reports.

After it had passed through a security screening, a man en route to a court appearance was seen grabbing and eating handfuls of the cake with his bare hands.

Deputy Joe Connor tells KATU he confronted suspect Robert Eric Fredrickson as he tried to wash his hands at a drinking fountain.

“I said ‘stand right there, don’t move.’ I went to get some towels to clean him up before I dealt with him, and no sooner had I turned my back on him, and he was back on the cake again. And then all hell broke loose,” Connor recounted.

Another deputy grabbed the suspect’s unwashed hand, he resisted and both the cake and the table it was on went flying as the deputies took him down. Everyone was smeared with frosting, according to the stations. Both provide video of the incident.

Fredrickson, 50, was arrested for investigation of third-degree theft. KGW and KOIN also have stories.

A local grocery will replace the cake.
