The Georgia Supreme Court has tossed a lawsuit that contended a transgender politician misled voters by running as a woman.

The court said Michelle Bruce did not cast doubt on the election results by using a female name on the ballot for the Riverdale Council, the New York Times reports.

The suit had claimed Bruce got more female votes by running as a woman, the story says. She is the first openly transgender politician in Georgia. Bruce issued a statement calling the ruling “a great victory for me and anyone who believes in equality.”
