GateHouse Media LLC announced Friday that it has reached an agreement to purchase the business information division of Dolan LLC, a legal and business news publisher.

It remains to be seen exactly how nearly two dozen Dolan publications including the Daily Record (Baltimore and New York), Lawyers Weekly in multiple states and the Wisconsin Law Journal will be dealt with by GateHouse, which is known for its community focus in some 100 daily and 200 weekly newspapers.

However, it appears that GateHouse plans to sell digital marketing services—such as search engine optimization and Web design—to business advertisers and subscribers, and sees a synchronicity between specialized legal and business publications and community newspapers, Robert Ambrogi writes at is Law Sites blog.

“In addition to the valuable content Dolan provides to its readership base, we believe their subscribers, which are predominately service-oriented business owners, are the ideal customer for our fast-growing digital services business, Propel Marketing,” Michael Reed says in the GateHouse announcement. He is president of New Media Investment Group, the parent company of GateHouse.
