Proponents of the right to carry concealed weapons at Atlanta’s international airport got some high-profile political support for their federal lawsuit.

Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue said new legislation that allows residents to carry concealed guns on public transportation, state parks and restaurants that serve alcohol should include the non-secure areas of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

“If my wife wanted to carry a gun, if she was going from the parking lot, walking from one of those far parking lots to pick up a grandchild or something like that, I think that’s a good idea, yes,” Perdue is quoted saying.

GeorgiaCarry.org has filed suit against the city of Atlanta and the airport over the current gun restrictions, which bar firearms from the terminal. It’s seeking a temporary order barring law enforcement from arresting anyone caught with a legal weapon.

The next hearing in the case is set for Aug. 11.

Edited at 10:06 a.m., July 16, to remove the word “extended” to clarify that Perdue is not advocating for an expansion of the legislation.
