A small town in Germany is planning to perform a DNA test on every licensed dog to make it easier to enforce a pooper-scooper law.

Owners who don’t pick up after pets can then be matched to the evidence that scofflaws leave behind, which a dog warden will collect, reports the Daily Mail.

“Any person who has trodden in their muck because their owners were too lazy or indifferent to clean up after them will know how distasteful and infuriating it is,” Mayor Peter Kornell of Volkach tells the United Kingdom newspaper. “‘So we aim to end it.”

Volkach, which is located in Bavaria, has a total of 420 licensed dogs. The town council is expected to OK the new enforcement plan later this month.
