Celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred and former Harvard law professor Elizabeth Warren are being recognized for their turns of phrase on a list of this year’s top 10 quotations.
Yale law librarian Fred Shapiro assembled the list that will be used in his next edition of the Yale Book of Quotations, the Associated Press reports. “We are the 99 percent” got the nod for the year’s top quote.
The list recognizes quotes that are famous, important or revealing of the spirit of the times, AP says. These quotes from legal luminaries also made the list:
• From U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren, a Harvard law prof: “There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody. You built a factory out there—good for you! But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for."
• From lawyer Gloria Allred, who alleged Herman Cain sexually harassed her client after she sought help finding a job. "Instead of receiving the help that she had hoped for, Mr. Cain instead decided to provide her with his idea of a stimulus package.”
