Democrats hope the former White House liaison for Alberto Gonzales will testify about her role in the firings of eight U.S. attorneys before Memorial Day.

A federal judge approved an immunity grant last week for Monica Goodling, paving the way for her testimony before the House Judiciary Committee.

Legal Times reports that Goodling is “one big wild card” that could affect whether Attorney General Alberto Gonzales remains in his job.

Meanwhile DOJ lawyers continued to negotiate over the release of additional documents regarding the firings. The paper quotes an anonymous staffer who said department officials were never instructed to preserve relevant materials.
