Gov't Lawyer Sued re Claimed Decade of Abuse After Girl, 10, Was Placed with Convicted Killer Aunt
A woman allegedly held captive and abused for a decade by an aunt who is a convicted killer has filed a civil rights suit against the city of Philadelphia and a government lawyer and social worker.
Beatrice Weston contends that her torment could have been avoided either through a background check of Linda Ann Weston or by monitoring her home situation after she was placed with her aunt, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer. City workers also allegedly failed to investigate numerous complaints that the aunt was holding children captive in her apartment building’s basement.
Linda Ann Weston, who has been criminally charged along with co-defendants, including city attorney Richard Ames, in an alleged Social Security scam involving multiple claimed victims, was previously convicted in 1983 of starving a man to death by locking him in a closet, the newspaper says.
A spokesman for the mayor’s office said the city would respond to the allegations in court. The Inquirer could not reach the individual defendants for comment.
Kline & Specter filed the suit on Monday in Pennsylvania’s Common Pleas Court.
