Greenberg Traurig acknowledges merger talks with UK law firm

Greenberg Traurig is in preliminary merger talks with British law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner.
Greenberg Traurig, which currently has about 1,950 lawyers in 38 offices, confirmed the talks on Wednesday, report the Am Law Daily (sub. req.) and Bloomberg Big Law Business. A combined law firm would have more than 2,500 lawyers.
The Am Law Daily says Berwin Leighton has a reputation as “a solid, upper midmarket London-based firm,” although it has underperformed financially in recent years. Berwin Leighton has a strong real-estate practice, which would be “an ideal synergy for Greenberg Traurig,” the article says.
Press releases issued by both firms said their leaders would “assess the merits of this opportunity over the coming months.”
