In one of the latest moves in an active lateral hiring market for seasoned attorneys in certain practice areas, Greenberg Traurig has added to its attorney roster three corporate and securities partners from K&L Gates.
They are Stephan Mallenbaum, Conrad Everhard and Sean Hayes, the firm reports in a press release.
"Greenberg Traurig constantly seeks to advance the capabilities and breadth of our practices. While the economy is providing everyone with challenges, it’s also providing many opportunities," says the firm's president, Richard Rosenbaum, in the release. "The addition of these three shareholders is particularly exciting because their broad range of experience supplements and enhances our existing client service capabilities."
In recent months, the 1,800-attorney Greenberg Traurig firm also has added 10 other lateral partners and six new counsels in the New York area, the release notes.
However, the lateral law firm hiring market isn't a one-way street. Two Greenberg Traurig partners, including the former co-leader of the firm's insurance recovery and advisory practice, have just moved to Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman in Washington, D.C., where they are expected to help their new firm build up its own insurance coverage practice, the Blog of Legal Times reports.
"With 2008 fee collections and bonus decisions wrapping up across the Am Law 200, legal recruiters say there will be plenty more lateral partner moves coming up in the weeks ahead," the BLT notes.
Peter Gillon now heads Pillsbury's insurance coverage group, and was joined in the jump to Pillsbury by partner Geoffrey Greeves.
More details are provided in a Pillsbury press release.

I was curious to see if any of the 19 were associates since a lot of my associate friends who have been laid off from BigLaw, following the financial crisis, have not found work. I see that it is all partners and counsel. What happens to the junior associates? Poor folks that just started in October and were kicked out by the new year ...
