John Grisham’s first book, A Time to Kill, will be portrayed on the Broadway stage this fall.

The courtroom thriller is the first Grisham novel to be adapted for the stage, report the Associated Press and the New York Times Arts Beat blog.

The book is about a white lawyer defending a black man accused of killing his daughter’s rapist. It has already been made into a movie.

Producer Daryl Roth acquired rights to the book in 2009, and playwright Rupert Holmes wrote the play.
