The Human Rights Campaign has filed an open records request in a bid to obtain phone and email records of Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, who had ordered probate judges in his state not to issue marriage licenses to gay couples.

The HRC says it wants to learn whether Moore “concocted an organized plan to stop same-sex marriages” by enlisting two groups that oppose same-sex marriage to file emergency petitions with his court. Al.com has a story.

The two groups–the Alabama Policy Institute and the Alabama Citizens Action Plan—are seeking an order halting gay-marriage licenses in the state. Standing is one of the issues in the case, Al.com reports in a separate story.

The federal judge who struck down Alabama’s ban on gay marriage issued an order last week requiring a probate judge added as a defendant in the litigation to issue gay marriage licenses.
