Growing Carlton Fields opens LA office with former Steptoe litigation practice leader at the helm
Only a few months after a merger that gave Carlton Fields a presence in Connecticut and Washington, D.C., the law firm is expanding again.
Carlton Fields Jorden Burt announced last week that it has opened an office in Los Angeles. The firm, which has long-established roots in Florida, now has 11 offices and a roster more than 370 attorneys and government consultants.
“We have substantial clients, cases, and transactions in California. So opening an office in Los Angeles is a natural progression of our growth,” said Gary L. Sasso, who serves as the firm’s president and CEO, in the announcement.
The firm’s class-action defense work “in particular, has driven us into California, where many such cases are filed,” he continued, noting: “We anticipate other synergies as well. California, Florida, and New York, for example, are international hubs, and they have strong financial services, real estate, technology, and health care and life sciences sectors.”
At the helm of the new Los Angeles office is Mark A. Neubauer, a former national chief of Steptoe & Johnson’s litigation practice and member of that firm’s executive committee. He also served as managing partner of Steptoe’s office in Century City, Calif.
Known for his skills as a trial lawyer in complex cases, Neubauer has held leadership positions in multiple bar associations, including the ABA, and was formerly a member of the ABA Journal’s Board of Editors.
Also joining Carlton Fields from Steptoe as a partner is Meredith M. Moss. She concentrates on employment counseling and business litigation matters.
