Gun comment backfires on court attendee, who is both held in contempt and criminally charged
Unhappy over the denial of his motion in a North Carolina child-support court, 51-year-old James Michael Robinette allegedly made a comment that made the situation considerably worse.
“I guess I’ll just have to go get my gun,” he said, according to a news release by the Lincoln County sheriff’s department. The Feb. 10 incident resulted both in his arrest for contempt of court and a felony charge of threats against executive, legislative or court office, the Lincoln Times-News reports.
Bond was set at $30,000 on the threats charge; however, District Judge Jeanette Reeves sentenced Robinette to 30 days for contempt, with no bond.
