Gunman is convicted, based in part on video of shooting at courthouse plaza
Video of a 2012 shooting outside an Oklahoma courthouse has been released, following the conviction last week of the assailant, Andrew Dennehy.
Used as evidence in the case, the grainy footage shows law enforcement reacting and shooting Dennehy as the barefoot man is moving around, armed and firing outside the Tulsa Courthouse one day in March 2012, according to Fox 23 and KJRH. A deputy and a bystander also were wounded, but survived.
Dennehy’s family says he is a paranoid schizophrenic, and Dennehy pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. The defense said he thought he was being chased by others at the time of the crime. However, at least one juror was persuaded otherwise by the video, KOTV reports.
“I was like, ‘look right here.’ He doesn’t look like anybody is chasing him. Because he walked calmly onto that plaza. He wasn’t running. He calmly walked,” Kayla McCall told the station.
The jury recommended that Dennehy get 23 years when he is sentenced in March on his convictions for assault and battery, reckless conduct with firearm and attempted escape.
