Actress Lindsay Lohan has doubled down in an ongoing saga of legal troubles.
Handcuffed in the wee hours Thursday morning by New York City police after she was accused of hitting another woman in a nightclub fight and charged with suspicion of misdemeanor assault, the 26-year-old actress caught a new case in California on Thursday afternoon. There she faces multiple charges concerning the false account prosecutors say she gave to Santa Monica authorities of an auto accident in June. And a trifecta of criminal proceedings could well be in Lohan’s future, since the latest charges are expected to trigger a hearing concerning the possible revocation of her probation in earlier intertwined drunken-driving and necklace-theft cases in Los Angeles.
CNN, the L.A. Now page of the Los Angeles Times, the New York Post, the Daily Dish blog of the San Francisco Chronicle, TMZ and USA Today all have stories. TMZ has posted a clip of the handcuffed actress walking toward a police car in the Big Apple.
Lohan’s case in Santa Monica relates to a June 8 accident on the Pacific Coast Highway, as she was en route to the set of the Liz & Dick television biopic in which she stars as Elizabeth Taylor. Prosecutors say she said her assistant was behind the wheel when her Porshe rear-ended a big rig. However, she is now accused of having herself been the driver and obstructed the investigation by lying to authorities. She also faces a charge of reckless driving.
