This week, we noted a law professor’s assertions, based on her research, that women who ask for raises tend to be disliked, while men don’t suffer from a loss of reputation–and men are more likely to have their request for a raise granted.

The topic came up on the New York Times’ Op-Talk blog because of speculation that 2015 will be a good year for wages.

So this week, we’d like to ask you: Have you ever asked for a raise? If so, did you succeed in getting one? If you successfully made your case for a raise, why do you think you succeeded? If you were denied the raise you asked for, why do you think your request failed?

Read the answers to last week’s question: Do you agree with laws setting age limits on when a child can be alone in public?

Featured answer:

Posted by Cal Gal: “The maturity and judgment of individual children vary so widely, as does the safety of their neighborhood, that it seems almost impossible to set an age limit that would be reasonable in a majority of cases. I certainly wouldn’t call the police in our quiet suburb if I saw an 8-year-old walking alone in broad daylight.”
