Heller Ehrman has lost two “leading and loyal partners” in part of a continuing rough patch for the law firm known for its collegiality, the Recorder reports.

Leaving the firm are Patricia Gillette, a co-chair of the firm’s labor and employment practice, and Jerry Marks, a securities litigator who is managing partner of the firm’s Los Angeles office. Gillette is leaving for Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe along with another labor partner and four associates. Marks is going to Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy.

The law firm lost half of its San Diego corporate practice earlier this year and fired 65 support staffers last month.

Gillette told the legal newspaper her departure is not connected to the firm’s recent troubles. “I think the firm is really committed to having a bright future,” she said. “There’s no doubt in my mind that it will be fine—I think all firms go through tough times.”
