In what a press release says is only the second such move by a major United States law firm, Florida-based Holland & Knight plans to open an office in Colombia in April.

The Bogota foothold will serve as a hub for the law firm’s growing practice both in Colombia and South America, said Steven Sonberg, the firm’s managing partner, in the release. “Colombia is a leading center for economic growth in Latin America and is poised for further growth with the adoption of the Colombia-U.S. Free Trade Agreement. This should increase foreign investment and provide a growing number of Colombian companies opportunities to expand abroad.”

Enrique Gómez-Pinzón, a partner from the firm’s Washington, D.C., office, will head the Bogota office.

The firm also has an office in Mexico City, the Tampa Bay Times notes.

The Am Law Daily and the Miami Herald also have articles.
