Holme Roberts & Owen is joining forces with Bryan Cave beginning on Jan. 1.

Is 150-lawyer Holme Roberts merging with Bryan Cave, or is it being acquired by the larger firm? A Bryan Cave announcement puts it this way: “We are delighted to announce the combination of Holme Roberts & Owen LLP into Bryan Cave LLP.” According to the Los Angeles Daily Journal (sub. req.), Holme Roberts is being acquired.

For 18 months, Holme Roberts will operate as Bryan Cave HRO before it becomes Bryan Cave, the Am Law Daily reports. According to the Wall Street Journal Law Blog, the combined firm will have more than 1,100 lawyers in 30 offices.

Holme Roberts cut its administrative staffing by about 10 percent to 15 percent early this year and lost 29 lawyers in its Salt Lake City office to Holland & Hart in May. The Am Law Daily calls Holme Roberts’ deal “a Mile High comeback that would make Tim Tebow proud.”
