A legal-help hotline for survivors of Hurricane Michael is now available as a result of a partnership between the ABA’s Young Lawyers Division and other groups.

The number is 1-866-584-8027 or 1-404-527-8793, according to an ABA press release.

Callers can call weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for help with landlord-tenant problems, insurance claims, claims with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and consumer issues such as contractor fraud. Volunteer lawyers provide the help.

The hotline was set up through a partnership of the Disaster Legal Services Program of the ABA’s Young Lawyers Division, FEMA, the State Bar of Georgia, the Georgia Legal Services Program and the Atlanta Legal Aid Society.

More information for disaster victims is available at GeorgiaLegalAid.org. Courts in seven Georgia counties were scheduled to reopen on Monday, according to the Judicial Council of Georgia’s Administrative Office of the Courts. Several others already have reopened.

Hurricane Michael victims in Florida can call a different hotline number: 1-866-550-2929. The Disaster Legal Services Program of the ABA’s Young Lawyers Division announced that hotline partnership last week.

Two out of seven closed courts in Florida were scheduled to reopen on Monday.
