How to Get Noticed When Applying for Legal Jobs Online

Lawyers applying for jobs listed on websites shouldn’t assume they don’t need to put much work into their applications.

Instead, job applicants need to prioritize, choosing their most desired positions and tailoring their résumés and cover letters for each job, experts told the National Law Journal. And going the extra mile can help job seekers get noticed.

Experts interviewed by the publication suggested these approaches:

• Contact people you know at a law firm advertising an opening for more information on the hiring partners and the positions. Ask if they will hand deliver your résumé.

• Check out the online biographies of other lawyers who practice in your targeted area at a firm that is hiring.

• Call the law firm for more information on a posted job. You could explain that you sent a resumé and want to know if anything more is needed.

• Check job sites in the late evening or early morning, since many are updated at night.
