Husch Blackwell Ups Ante for Some First-Years; Press Release Chart Lists Salaries Up to $160K
Husch Blackwell is increasing starting salaries for first-year associates in eight of the 14 offices listed on its website.
And, rather than wait for legal news media to report on internal email to associates about the promised pay increase, the law firm has issued a press release announcing the new first-year salaries that also provides a handy chart of who’s getting what.
The highest-paid will be first-years in Chicago, at a salary of $160,000. Those in Memphis, Tenn., are at the low end at $90,000, followed by Omaha, Neb., at $92,000, Chattanooga, Tenn., at $95,000, three offices (Phoenix, Ariz., Kansas City, Mo., and St. Louis, Mo.) at $120,000, and Washington, D.C., at $150,000.
That represents a $20,000 pay raise for associates in the D.C. office, who were making $130,000, reports the Blog of Legal Times.
Merit raises for some associates could up the ante even further, according to Gregory Smith, who serves as chief executive officer and managing partner of the approximately 600-attorney law firm.
“To effectively serve our great clients, we must also consistently attract and retain top talent,” he said in the firm’s press release. “Towards that end, we regularly review associate salaries. Recently we determined that we needed to raise starting salaries in certain markets to assure that our compensation for associates is competitive. We have always been committed to attracting and keeping the very best talent, and these salary adjustments help to ensure our continued top performance for clients.”
The six other offices listed on the firm’s website are in Denver, Colo., Peoria, Ill., Jefferson City, Mo., Springfield, Mo., Lincoln, Neb., and overseas in London.
