In 'Reflection of the Job Market,' Albany Law School to Cut Enrollment By 4%, Budget By 2%
In what its dean calls a “reflection of the job market,” Albany Law School at Union University is cutting its enrollment and budget.
The number of law students will shrink 4 percent, from 250 to 240, and $600,000–a 2-percent cut–will be trimmed from its $32 million budget, reports the National Law Journal.
Dean and president Thomas Guernsey notes that Albany is also eliminating employee pay raises and upping law school tution by 4% to partially offset the tuition lost as a result of the enrollment cut.
Law school applications dropped by 20 percent this year, and he says the changes are intended to retain the quality of the school’s students so they are qualified for jobs when they graduate.
