Iran Frees U.S. Journalist, Lawyer Says
The lawyer for imprisoned U.S. journalist Roxana Saberi says an Iran appeals court has suspended her sentence and she has been freed.
Roxana Saberi was originally sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of spying for the United States. Her lawyer, Abdolsamad Khorramshahi, told the Associated Press that Saberi’s sentence was reduced to two years in prison and suspended. Reuters has a similar report.
Saberi was released today, the Washington Post reports, citing statements by Khorramshahi.
The Times Online says Saberi’s father, Reza Saberi, has contended his daughter’s trial last month was a mock trial that lasted only a few minutes.
