Updated: McKenna Long & Aldridge is merging with California-based Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps.

The combination creates a 600-lawyer law firm with offices in 13 cities, the Am Law Daily reports. The target merger date is March 1, according to a press release.

A few high-profile Luce Forward partners won’t be making the move. Edward “Pat” Swan, the partner in charge of Luce Forward’s San Diego office, is moving to Jones Day, according to previous reports. And two IP partners are joining Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, a source tells the Daily Journal (sub. req.). They are practice group leader Callie Bjurstrom and Peter Hahn.

The defections may have spurred the firms to announce the merger even as key details were still being finalized, including those regarding partner compensation, the Daily Journal says in a separate article.

The combined firm will continue under the name McKenna Long & Aldridge.
